Here is the one the best fights we've covered on Combatwire.  Jon Murphy faces Jeremy Ashley in Primetime Fighting Championships: Inception.  While there was lots of exciting action inside the cage, there was also a fire brewing outside.  Murphy's corner has issues with referee Dave Stone.  Words are exchanged and suddenly the corners of both fighters are at odds with each other.  Tension is everywhere.  You need to watch!

Orland Park native and former IFL welterweight Rory Markham has signed a four fight deal the Ultimate Fighting Championship.  He will fight on the undercard of UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19.  Rory's opponent is Brodie Farber and the match will be in the welterweight division.  Markham sports a 14-4 record and gained a reputation as an exciting fighter in the International Fight League as a member of Pat Miletich's team.  With the IFL facing an uncertain future Rory was allowed to fight elsewhere and most recently appeared in Adrenaline MMA's debut show earlier this summer.  He beat Jay Ellis with a triangle choke.

Combatwire talked to Markham recently about his future plans.  UFC Fight Night 14 will air on Spike TV the same night Affliction: Banned debuts on pay-per-view.

Optimism Towards Adrenaline MMA

The debut of Adrenaline MMA drew mixed reaction from MMA fans.  Its debut show at The Sears Centre Arena in suburban Chicago spotlighted several local and regional fighters, but managed to only draw what's believed to be around 2,000 people.  CEO Monte Cox is looking to follow the same business model as the growing Strikeforce promotion.  Cox already has a broadcast deal with HDNet and is forming alliances with other fight groups to cross-promote fighters and shows.  In an interview with Combatwire TV he was confident in his promotion's future.

The next Adrenaline MMA event is September 6 in Moline, IL.  Tim "Mainiac" Sylvia will fight in the main event, his opponent is TBA.

Affliction's first foray into MMA promotion is July 19 with the event called "Banned."  The company is well known for its trendy t-shirts, which are worn by several popular fighters.  Affliction has gathered several big-name heavyweights to participate in the initial fight card, which will be available on pay-per-view and takes place at The Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.  Combatwire caught up with three of those big heavyweights, Tim Sylvia, Andrei Arlovski and Ben Rothwell, at the recent Adrenaline MMA event in Chicago.  Click to watch the interviews.

Adrenaline MMA - Where were the fans?

Does Chicago have enough MMA fans to support the sport locally?

According to internet reports and those in attendance at Adrenaline MMA in Hoffman Estates on Saturday night (June 14th), there was somewhere between 2,000-2,500 fans in attendance.  For a region with more than 9 million residents, that's not a big number!

There could be a number of valid reasons for the low attendance - gas prices, location, fightcard. So, if you went to the fight, what were your thoughts? Do you think Chicago is ready for larger MMA events? Will fans come out for a top-rated fightcard?

Here's a review from MMAPayout.com. Do you agree with their assessments about Adrenaline MMA?
